Happy Juneteenth - the newest federal holiday and a celebration of freedom and the end of slavery!

Happy Juneteenth! A celebration of Freedom and the end of slavery on June 19th, 1865. This also happens to be the year that Cornell was founded, so the year is a very special one for me personally.

For a more nuanced and detailed understanding of the latest federal holiday, I found the following video with CBS interview from Professor Henry Louis Jr. below helpful. Freedom is worth celebrating! Juneteenth as well as Father’s Day are wonderful opportunities to reflect on the progress that has been made since Juneteenth 1865, and to continue to fight for a more just and equitable future.
