Solution to the Doc appointment problem

If you are like the rest of us, you know how much of a hassle it can be, to make an appointment to see a doctor. You end up spending hours on the phone only to discover that the doctor most likely don't have any opening for weeks if not months. One of the best solution to this problem is ZocDoc. This company was founded in NYC to deal with this precise problem and truly makes life immeasurably convenient. It just makes so much sense that you wonder how you got along without it all these years.

One of the best part of this site is to be able to search doctors based on the insurance you have. A huge hurdle of booking an appointment with a doctor is to figure out whether or not he or she takes you insurance. ZocDoc easily pulls up a database of the doctors that are "In-Network" with your insurance and those that are "Out-of-Network".

To top it all off, you see a real time calendar of all the available appointments of each doctors. With a click of a button you can confirm an appointment as early as within a couple of hours. I have made an appointment two hours before heading off to see a doctor, which was a completely revolutionary experience.

As expected, doctors get rated by their patients, which keeps the doctors accountable and helps you pick the best doctors for your needs.

Zocdoc is expanding at a rapid rate too. They now cover New York, Washington DC, San Francisco and Chicago. They do not charge anything for primary care physicians to enlist into the database while specialists pay a minimum fee. The best part is that it's FREE for the patients. Happy scheduling your appointments.

UPDATE 10/22/10: ZocDoc now has a Free iPhone Application. Create your appointments on the Go.

  1. Hint: For DOE Employees who have the UFT for their Dentists, Look under "UNION" category for the Insurance named UFT. I originally thought they did not have my insurance.
